Well, first fan fiction...ever. I'm really nervous, but also excited, and it was really fun to write! ^_^ Doesn't contain any shipping, just a bit of Mama!Beef, Kid!Pause, and Kid!Etho, and their first experience with a bow. Hope you enjoy.

"Wake up Etho!"
Etho blinked twice before he felt the smack of something soft across his face. "Ow," he mumbled to himself before he sat up and faced the person who had disturbed his sleep. Standing at the edge of his bed, clutching a pillow and had war paint smeared around his eyes, was Etho's younger brother Pause. Etho sighed and lied back down.
"What do you want Pause?" he questioned his smiling brother. Etho had not been very pleased to be woken from his slumbers.
Pause smacked Etho with the pillow again, "Get up, lazy bones! I wanna show you something." Etho chose to ignore his younger brothers voice and pretended to go back to sleep. He heard Pause grumble something under his breath before he brought the pillow down on his face, much harder then before.
"Alright, alright, I'll get up!" Etho half shouted. "Get out and let me get dressed."
Pause smiled and dropped the pillow before running out of his older brother's room, closing the door behind him. "Don't fall back asleep!" he yelled through the closed door. "Whatever." Etho half answered before he stared picking out his clothes he was going to wear.
Dressed and groomed, Etho made his way downstairs, where he could smell his mother cooking waffles and bacon. Pause was already at the kitchen table, his face stuffed with food and maple syrup dribbling down his face. Etho sighed before he walked over to Pause, grabbed a paper towel off the table, and started wiping the mess off his brother's face. Pause made a face and swallowed the food in his mouth.
"I'm not a baby!" he protested, grabbing the towel from Etho. Just at that moment, their mother walked over to the table and placed a plate of waffles and bacon in front of Etho's chair.
"It's too early for you two to be fighting," she sighed. "So, where are you two planing to do today?"
Etho thanked his mom, sat down his chair and began eating. Pause swallowed another bite of food before answering his mother's question.
"There's a bow shop that just opened up down the street, I was going to take Etho there so we could buy bows."
"Hey, I'm the older one, shouldn't I be taking you places?"
"Yeah, but you'd get lost! You couldn't find your way home if I blindfolded you, spun you around six times, then took the blindfold off!"
Etho made a face at his younger brother, but couldn't deny his words, he was really bad when it came to directions. Their mother sighed at her sons' bickering before making her way back to the kitchen to make her own breakfast. It was at this point that Etho had realized what his brother said before.
"Were you serious when you said there was a new bow shop down the street?" he questioned excitedly. He might, just might, be able to forgive his brother for waking him up early.
Pause rolled his eyes, "Why would I lie about that, of course I was serious! You know how much we've been talking to Mom about wanting to take archery just so we can shoot a bow, and now we can both have our own! So hurry up and finish eating!"
Etho couldn't help but smile at his brother. Pause was annoying sometimes, but Etho loved him to death because of things like this. The brothers quickly finished their breakfast, put the dishes in the sink, told their mom goodbye and left the house. Once outside, Pause pulled some money out of his pocket and counted it. "I've saved up $37, do you think that'll be enough?"
"I hope so," Etho replied, "Let's hurry up and go, it's kinda cold out here." Pause nodded in agreement and stuffed the money back into his pocket. They started walking down the path through the forest that led into town, Pause in the lead and Etho not far behind. The walk into town took about five minutes, but those minutes seemed to drag on for the two excited brothers. When the boys emerged from the forest and stepped into the shopping district of town, Pause took off running. Etho, surprised at Pause's sudden burst of energy, was quick to follow. He could hear his brother's laughter ahead of him, and knew that Pause intended to race him.
'Well that's not fair', Etho thought to himself, 'he knows where he's going and I don't.' Never the less, Etho picked up his pace and soon was running right along side Pause. Pause grinned even bigger as they ran through the street, startling a few early shoppers. The brother's continued to race, neck and neck, until Pause made a sudden right turn and Etho had to stop himself from running strait into another shop. He slowed down to more of a jog and caught up with his younger brother down the road he had made his sharp turn at. Pause had his hands on his knees and was breathing heavily through his mouth. When he noticed Etho standing there waiting for him, he straitened up at pointed a finger at his older brother.
"Beat...you...finally," Pause said in between large breathes. Etho rolled his eyes and smirked at his younger brother,
"Cheaters never win, winners never cheat."
"How did I cheat?! You just wont admit defeat!" Pause retorted.
Etho crossed his hands over his chest, "At least I'm not out of breath."
Pause opened his mouth to say something else, but they were both interrupted by a small cough from their left. Both boys looked over in that detection to find a man leaning up against what looked like a store. The man was wearing a red shirt with black overalls, his hair was a dark brown, and very messy, and most of his face was obscured green tinted goggles.
"Did you kids want to buy a bow?" he asked, a smile playing on his face. Etho looked at Pause and Pause looked at Etho, then they both ran towards the man and his shop. The man, who introduced himself as Vechs, led them inside. Pause and Etho couldn't help but gape at the number of bows on the display shelves.
"Look at this one!" Pause called to his brother. Etho walked over to Pause and read the description of the bow he was pointing at. "Fiery Demise: Flame I, Power IV, Punch IV, Infinity I; $249.99!" Pause and Etho stared with wide eyes at each other. There was no way they would ever have enough money for that bow. Etho turned around and looked at Vechs the shopkeeper, who was petting a bat that was perched on a bird perch on his check-out counter, and was giggling to himself. Etho grabbed his brother's hand and pulled him away from the "Fiery Demise" and towards Vechs.
"Excuse me, what could me and my brother get for $37?" Etho asked as Pause pulled said money out of his pocket. A thoughtful look crossed Vechs's face before he smiled again, "Ah, I know just the thing for you two, be right back." Vechs left the counter and walked to the very back of the store and through a door. Some rummaging could be heard by the two brothers, and then an "Ah ha!" noise, before the shopkeeper came back with two bows in his hands. Both bows were slightly beat up, but Vechs told the boys he would sell them the bows for $15 a piece, and would let them each have a quiver of arrows for the remaining $7. Both boys were speechless, they would have their very own bows and arrows, the things that they had been wanting for as long as they could remember.
Pause was the first to recover from his daze and handed the shopkeeper all his money. Etho soon recovered and took his bow from Vechs with a quiet "thank you". Pause grabbed his bow and, with a much more louder "thank you!" grabbed his older brother's hand and pulled him over to where the arrows and quivers were stored. The brothers both picked a leather quiver filled with arrows, thanked Vechs one more time, and ran out of the store, bows and quivers swung onto their backs.
"I can't believe it! We each have our own bow and arrows," Pause said after him and Etho had both left town. They were currently sitting up in their makeshift tree house in the middle of the woods, not far from the path back home. Etho had nocked an arrow and had pulled the bowstring back and aimed his bow at a near by tree. He held his breath and released the string. The arrow went sailing through the air and... landed about a foot away from his intend target. Pause tried to stifle his laughter, but to no avail. He was rolling around on the floor of the tree house. Etho had the urge to hit him on the head with his bow, but soon joined in with Pause's contagious laughter. When they were finished, and both their cheeks hurt, they lied sprawled out on the floor of the tree house. Pause was the first to speak, "Now I guess we have to learn how to shoot them." Etho smiled, "Another time, for now, let's head home."
