Isi's Mindcrack Mod Adventures, Part 25
Saturday, November 24th, 2012 01:48 amAgainst all better judgement, I seem to be staying up for the Minecon opening stream, and am typing this up in the meantime. It's funny how caught up I've been in all the buzz surrounding a convention I never had a chance of attending, but I suppose this fandom has changed everything for me. Meanwhile, I've been quite busy with my own thing...

So last time I mentioned I wanted to try my hand at a mini build for Zisteau or Nebris. I didn't do that. I got a different idea, so I poke around for a good location. I didn't want it in the same area as my other stuff. But remember these two? They were tagalongs from way back during a long expedition transporting new people to my base, and I just kind of left them there. I don't know what to do with them. They're just... there.

I spend some time doing prep work for my new project, making frequent trips back here to use my sheep pen. You will notice I have dyed them all pink.

My chicken farm, on the other hand... Its productivity leaves something to be desired, and I'll just leave it at that.

I also need a bit of blue wool, and suddenly the millions of sheep in this area have a purpose. Guude seems to have joined them.

In time I pen a bunch of them up as well. It's closer than my other sheep farm, plus I didn't want to redye any of my pink sheep, in case I still needed them. There is so much wool involved in this project. Perhaps you've already guessed what it is. I mean, part of my thought process going into this mod was being able to play with the Mindcrackers, kind of like mobile, in game action figures, and, well, Minecon is a fun thing involving them that has been on my mind lately, but since I can't actually go, I can stay here with my toys and play pretend.
So welcome...
To Minecon 2012.

I BUILT DISNEYLAND PARIS, BABY. SUCK IT.
For reference, see here for a real life picture I used for reference, and here for a version made in Minecraft. There's a bunch of little towers and other details that I skipped over, and I may add them in later, but for now, I am very happy with this.
Some quick statistics:
Number of times VintageBeef'd while building this: 3
I blame two of those on lag. As I progressed in building this, I remembered the reason why I am not allowed to be a builder in Minecraft. Huge projects like this kill my framerates, and it's not like I get high FPS to begin with. You try making delicate maneuvers while tiptoeing around fifty blocks in the air with 5 FPS. You're dead before you even realize you're falling. It occurs to me that every one of my deaths in this world has been to fall damage, and that I should really invest in an enchanting table and get me some feather falling already.
But anyway. Much like my playing pretend with my own little version of Minecon, my version of Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant is held together by strands of fairy magic and sheer willpower. Take a look at my cheaty behind the scenes scaffolding.

It's not as pretty from this angle, and I still need to do some work in terms of where I'm going to put the Mindcrackers when I bring them over. I'm thinking some kind of enclosed, indoor area so I won't have to see the castle from this angle. But I haven't decided if I'm going to model it after an actual convention area, a hotel, a bar, or what. It would help if there was video of the convention, but obviously we don't have that yet. Stay tuned for more progress!
