Chapter 4
MC woke up in complete silence. As he sat with his eyes closed, he tried to make out any sounds.
Nothing.
MC slowly opened his eyes. I'd have thought such spartan living arrangements were more Zisteau's thing... MC turned his head to the left, at which point he nearly had a heart attack again.
Etho was sitting very quietly in a chair next to the bed, watching him.
“Jeez man, you are just....heart attack inducing, so quiet. How are you making no noise at all...jeez...”MC gasped as he put a hand over his chest.
“Are you ok?” Etho asked quietly.
MC blinked at Etho. “It uhm, yes. So you wrote the letter.” Etho pondered MC quietly before leaning back in the chair lacing his fingers together.
“Something like that.” Etho said calmly.
Something like that? Well it...wait, was this a trap?MC closed his eyes and sighed.
“Something like that, yes.” Etho, repeating himself.
“You've broken my heart, Etho. I thought you might have actually liked me,” MC said, sniffling.
Etho closed his eyes and sighed. “You are terrible at trying to make people feel bad.” “No I'm not. You're all squirmy and unhappy now, which means you'll let me go home and go to sleep, and pretend none of this ever happened and wait why would you still paint my room, that makes no sense and oh dear,” MC rambled as Etho frowned at him, before leaning forward in the chair.
“I didn't paint your room. I saw who did though. That's the issue, see,” Etho said, continuing to frown at MC. “I also saw you give your undying devotion to that same person, and they returned it in kind. That's...well, that's bad for you. Luckily, you were very much out of it. Rather easy to convince you someone else did all that. I didn't think you'd come out while you were still sick though. Otherwise I would have been more prepared to keep you out of the way.”
What. ”What.” MC said, blinking at Etho.
“You are very slow. You will be staying here. I will be telling people how your sickness took a turn for the worse, how sad. The person who I want will be grief stricken. I will comfort them. Everyone is happy again.” Etho leaned back in the chair briefly, causing the chair to tip back, before he brought the chair down with a thud. Leaning in close to MC, Etho smiled faintly. “Well, everyone is happy except for you, perhaps.”
“...can I at least know who I professed my undying devotion to?” MC said, sniffling quietly.
“Hmmm no. If you do actually care about them, you might try and stop what I want to do,” Etho said, before standing up. “I don't think I should have to say this, but maybe I do. I might not have had a lot of time to prepare, but don't try to leave the room. It'll be bad for you. At least I'd legitimately be able to say you took a turn for the worse though.” Etho turned away from MC and left the room, closing and locking the door behind him.
Shoulda know it would be a trap. Maybe if I go to sleep, this will all have been a terrible dream while on medicine type deal. If it's not, I feel bad for whoever I gave undying devotion to. Sorry...
MC fell asleep, snoring softly.
