In which the techie students compete at throwing eggs :D
Beginning
Previous

One of the final years had set-up a technical competition, and the first year technical students had all decided to compete, but didn’t know what they’d be asked to create. They’d sat together to discuss the competition that was starting that morning. Sev and Vechs were the only two not getting actively involved in the debate, they had never experienced competitions here. Anderz sat beside Doc, then Nebris took the seat opposite, beside Pyrao.

‘Etho, you can get him off my back’ Anderz demanded

‘Not so sure about that’ Etho responded

‘I just want know what caused you to challenge me’ Nebris told Anderz

‘You.. You dirty damn Sheather.’ Anderz stuttered indignity.

Nebris looked bemused, not really understanding why that was an issue, but finally accepting that Anderz had gotten upset of his cheating, he got up and left.

‘Hey Anderz?’ Pak drew Anderz attention ‘Would you like to join us for the competition?’

‘What? A technical contest, and you want me?’

‘Well, it’ll give us a reason to keep Nebs away’

‘You could just stick with me’ Doc offered

‘Looking for groups of five, each group gets a hangar, to hide what they’re up to.’ The final year student announced. ‘Your task, send an egg, unharmed, the furthest distance.’

The various students began splitting up.

‘Vechs and Blame should be in different groups, as both of then mostly work with mini worlds, which could be helpful for testing’ Seth Reasoned, the group seemed to agree

‘We should also split up Doc and Seth’ Etho suggested, no-one seemed to follow his logic

‘Sev shouldn’t be on the same team as Vechs, Not fair to have two newbies on the same team’ Doc offered, to the agreement of the others

‘Pyrao might be good for the other team, as we both focus in the same topics’ Sev offered, the group agreed

‘Ads and Pak are both willing to do time taking projects’ Vechs pointed out, This to seemed a good enough reason to move them into separate groups, Pak Gravitated to Blame.

‘Seeing as me and Doc are together, and Pak invited me, I feel we should join Pak, Blame and Sev’ Anderz stated, this seemed fair enough and the two groups moved off to find hangars

Doc Pak and Sev started mocking up ways they could move the egg and cushion it so it would remain undamaged. Settling on a rocket with a cushioned inside where the egg could sit.

Blame was showing Anderz how setting up a mini world was done. As this was considered advanced it wasn’t taught to many outside of the techie banner. Anderz had played in mini worlds, Vechs and Blame made challenges, and many students had tried their hands at them.

Blame then started showing how you made major changes, turning the ground from the grass and vegetation to a flat desert plain. They entered the mini world to set-up makers for measuring distance. Anderz had never been in an unlocked mini world, He kept breaking things with the briefest touch. Blame found his bumbling funny, and tried to get Anderz used to the fragile world. He also demonstrated the loop lock he’d put in place, to provide them with infinite testing distance in the small space.

Blame returned to the normal world, Doc was working in the mini world, trying to create their first idea. Pak and Sev were still going over the numbers, and trying to find potential problem areas. Once Doc was finished the first iteration, he and Anderz tested their rocket. Once they’d run a couple of attempts they reported back to the others, and both helped with prototyping. The day continued like this, with the distance slowly getting larger, and the infinite loop becoming more useful. Eventually Pak started creating the real world version, with help from Blame.

Lunch was delivered to the hangars. The competitors packed up that night. They all returned to their dorms.

‘Where were you all day?’ JSano asked Anderz as he slinked in

‘I was with Doc’

‘Wasn't he competing in the techie contest?’

‘Yeah, Pak invited me’

‘Oh, was it good?’

‘It was different, it finishes tomorrow’

They continued chatting about what had occurred during the day for a while. JSano updating Anderz on the current standing of the various sporting tournaments. Eventually they bid each other night and drifted off to their own dream worlds.

The playground was set-up for the testing, they were starting with the first years. Vechs team was the first up, the cannon fired, the shoot launched successfully. They barely got halfway across the distance that was set aside for the competition, Blames group got the same distance, neither egg was harmed.

The upper years got a lot further, with one of the team of final years hitting the wall at the other side of the field, egg still unbroken. They won the prize, and bragging rights.

The first years where happy with their entrants though, nothing had gone wrong, even if they hadn’t made the distance that the older groups had.
