Chapter 8
-BDubs-
“Get away from the wall.”
Freezing, BDubs looked down at the sword pointed at his throat. One move on either person’s part and he was dead. “Look, I don’t want any trouble…” He started, but was silenced by the man driving the sword closer to his throat. BDubs could now feel the cool metal pressed against his Adam’s apple.
“As do I.” The man replied. “Get away from the wall, and we’ll be fine.”
“Okay then. I’m going to move now. Try not to kill me.” BDubs said, and held up his hands. He took a careful step away from the wall into the center of the room, into the sunlight of the day. The sun beat down. His clothes were still stuck uncomfortably on his body, and he wished he could strip it off.
The breeze had gone. All was still.
The person who had his sword drawn and pointed at BDubs' throat visually relaxed a bit. His body was in the shadow, and he wasn’t speaking. He was taller than BDubs, but only by a little bit. His outline gave him the appearance that he was fairly muscular.
“Well, what are we going to do now?” BDubs asked. “By the way, I’m sorry if I did something to alarm you. I was just looking. No touching.”
The man lowered his sword and sighed. “Did you come here to maul the drawings on these walls?”
BDubs sucked in his breath a bit from the horribleness of the question. “Why would I ever do that? It would be terrible if something were to happen to such innovative and beautiful designs for buildings! I should know that they’re so, since my job does say that I’m an architect.”
The man was silent for a bit, then sheathed his sword. “I’m sorry that I have done this to you. I thought you were one of those horrible people that come to this place with the intention of destroying these ideas on the walls that are so impressive to you.”
BDubs opened his mouth to reply, but the man stepped out of the shadows and into the sunlight along with him.
And BDubs was speechless.
The breeze was gone. All was still.
The man frowned, noticing the blatant look of astonishment on BDubs' face. “Is there something wrong?”
“You’re… I can’t believe it…” BDubs whispered.
The man looked concerned. “Should I go for help?” His face changed quickly, though, as he scanned BDubs and saw the blood on his sleeve. “Are you hurt? Is that your blood?”
BDubs broke out of his trance to respond with, “Oh, I—” but stopped when he remembered why he came all this way. “Sir, I need your help.”
“Yes, I can see that.” The man replied, and began to usher BDubs into a different part of the house.
“No, Sir, It’s for something different.” BDubs said, and stopped walking so the other man would pay attention. “There was a man in town today, and he was being brutally mistreated by a wench with a whip. I followed the trail of blood to this house. I would like to make sure that the man is okay.”
The man looked at BDubs for a long time, not saying anything.
BDubs tried again. “Please, Sir, if you know where he is, I would like to make sure he’s okay…”
“So it was you.” The man said, and gently grabbed his arm. “Follow me.” And so the man led BDubs through the house and outside, through what must have been the back door. They traveled across the grove and into the woods, and traveled further away from the castle.
Walking down a steep hill, the man stopped suddenly, causing BDubs to have to grab a nearby tree to remain upright. They had come upon a small hunting lodge that was in much better shape than the run-down ruins that they had just come from, albeit dug halfway into the hillside. From the outside, from almost every angle, it looked like there was nothing there. It was certainly a well-secured hiding place.
“Come on.” The man said, and followed an equally invisible trail to the door of the lodge. Pulling open another completely invisible thing—this time a door, he ushered BDubs inside. Ducking his head, he climbed inside.
The lodge was quite big. Bigger than BDubs was used to, which meant barely enough space for someone to stretch out to sleep and another to watch for game in the woods. This hunting lodge was vast enough for it to be tall enough to stand upright in comfortably, a good seven feet tall. It also had a sleeping area screened off by some pelts, a storage area, and a cooking area complete with a fire. The fire was currently ablaze, the smoke flowing out of a hole on the roof. It made the place warm and comfortable, despite the floor and most of the walls being dirt.
“This is… large. And comfortable.” BDubs remarked, pleasantly surprised.
The man nodded, already walking over to the storage area and pulling out medicine and things. “It is, very much so.” He agreed.
BDubs sat down next to the fire and leaned back onto the paneled wall. He sighed, and poked his arm with his other hand to see if he felt it. He didn’t, and he sighed again.
He hoped that his hand wouldn’t have to be chopped off. He trusted Doc enough to let him perform the amputation, but he still enjoyed entertaining the thought of retaining his arm and having a complete set.
The man came over and sat in front of BDubs. “Okay, I’m going to have you drink this.”
BDubs gazed wearily at the liquid in the container. “What is it?”
“Water.” The man replied. “You’re dehydrated.”
BDubs blinked. “Oh.” He took the cup and downed it in two gulps.
The man refilled it from a waterskin and pushed it back to BDubs, who drank it all. “What’re you going to do now?” BDubs asked, accepting another cup and drinking it.
“I’m going to cleanse your arm with vinegar, then bandage it up with myrrh and yarrow in it. Then you’re going to sleep.” The man replied.
Sleep? What?
“Give me your arm.” The man said, and BDubs complied.
And so BDubs sat on the floor, leaning up against the wall and watched a man he just met, and the man that tried to kill him, don’t forget, cleanse his wounds and wrap them up with white bandages. The whole thing was surreal, and BDubs couldn’t get his mind around it. It made him feel weak in the head.
By the time the man was done, BDubs was actually feeling a bit weak. “Ugh, what’s happening?” He asked groggily.
The man leaned back onto his heels and answered simply, “I spiked your water.”
BDubs clenched his teeth, fighting to stay awake. “With what?”
“Just poppy seed juice. You look like the kind of fellow who won’t sleep unless it’s forced upon you. And if you want that wound to heal, you’re going to need lots of it.” the man said.
BDubs blinked slowly, trying to stand up. “I know who you are…”
The man stood up. “I’ll see you around, when you wake up.”
BDubs fell over, his head hitting the soft dirt. The words on his lips escaped at the last second, before he fell into deep slumber.
“GenerikB….”

And I can produce so much content purely because I have absolutely nothing to do until school gets back in. Nothing. Also, I haven't adjusted my sleeping pattern yet, so I'm up at really weird times, making it easier to work undisturbed. (I usually just plug into my music and pour my heart out into my computer) <3 sorry that was so long
(It's 1:26 in my time zone at the moment)
