Fated (Chapter Twenty-One)
First off I am very very sorry that this is a day late. I was very busy and tired Wednesday and Thursday so I couldn't finish the chapter in time. That said it's mostly character development although we do meet a new person.

Chapter Twenty-One
Kingdom of Illian, Minecraftia. September 25, year 573. Time instance 483Z.
“We’ve been walking for hours.” Baltbee complained as they walked, stepping over tree roots.
“It’s only been maybe half an hour.” Carl shot back.
“It’s better for you; you’re on the panther!” Baltbee growled, turning to glare at him. “Give someone else a turn, huh?”
“If you want to try, be my guest. I’m not responsible if she mauls you.” Carl said, rolling his eyes. “She doesn’t like other people so much.”
“Quit complaining. You’re making my ears bleed.” Aldobiva growled over her shoulder, looking back at them. “Don’t make me come back there.” She shook her free hand- her left hand- at them threateningly, as her right hand was occupied by one of Vorna’s hands.
Vorna rolled her eyes. “I don’t think-“
“Watch it!” Zel made a swiping motion with his hand and a chunk of earth ripped itself from the ground, slamming into a giant spider that had started to charge them from the shadows.
“Holy shit.” Carl muttered. “How do you do that?”
Zel glanced at the map, not looking up at him. “I’m an earth elementalist. It’s just a thing we do.”
“That’s awesome.” Vorna whispered. Aldobiva nodded in agreement, staring at the squashed spider.
“Let’s get moving. There may be more.” Zel suggested, starting to walk again. He skirted around the hole he had left in the ground, flicking his hand almost as an afterthought. The chunk of earth slid back into place, filling the gap and leaving the twitching corpse alone.
“Cool…” Baltbee breathed, watching it. “H-hey guys! Wait up!” He quickly caught up with them, having paused to watch.
He was really wondering how he had managed to run into so many weird people with weird powers.
Fate leaves some without the overpowering skills of others.

“Wow, Valkan. You’re really walking funny. Are you okay?” Tranpar asked a few minutes into their trek east. “You’re not moving that fast.”
“I’m fine.” Valkan growled, doing his best to walk normally. “It just hurts.”
“Why?”
“I slept funny. Stop prying.” Valkan snarled, causing Tranpar to shrink back.
“Sorry…” He sighed and patted the neck of Tarsen’s brown horse. He glanced up as he heard Tarsen laugh quietly and caught Valkan glaring at him in response to a smug look.
Not understanding, Tranpar immediately forgot Valkan’s order to stop prying that he had said literally two seconds ago and asked, “What?”
“Nothing.” Valkan snapped. “It’s not important.”
“But I want to knooooooow!”
“No, you don’t.” Samuel informed him.
“But-“
“Trust me.” Samuel sighed.
Tranpar frowned and glanced at Tarsen, who just shook his head. “Listen to him.”
“I can’t believe the only one agreeing with me is the one we unanimously agree is the trashbag.” Samuel grumbled.
Tarsen threw an arm around Samuel’s shoulders. “I’m the best trashbag and don’t you deny it.”
Samuel shot him a look. “Corrupt Tranpar’s innocent eleven-year-old mind and I will force you into a formal social interaction.”
Tarsen stared at him. “You wouldn’t.”
“And you’d have to wear something other than a few leather strips on your torso, specifically an actual shirt.”
“I’d rather fuck a demon.” Tarsen said, clearly horrified as he removed his arm.
“Demons aren’t that bad.” Valkan reasoned.
A biased opinion.
Trymdas whimpered softly, earning a glare from Valkan. “They’re pretty awesome, actually. Not annoying like people are.”
Trymdas whimpered again. “R-remember-”
“Shut up.” Valkan snapped. Trymdas shrunk back and fell silent, clearly upset.
Tarsen frowned. “Was that really necessary?”
“Yes. He gets annoying and whiny like that all the time.”
“Geez, I thought I was trashy.” Tarsen muttered to Samuel. “At least I don’t bitch at people and control their lives.”
Samuel nodded in agreement. “You have morals and a line of how far you will go. Valkan doesn’t. He gives me a bad feeling but he’s part of the prophecy so we can’t get rid of him.”
Tranpar watched all of this silently, letting himself just take in the information, before asking questions. “What makes you think demons aren’t so bad, Valkan?”
“Well, when someone annoys them, they tear out the person’s intestines and strangle him with them.” He glared at Tranpar, a clear threat underlying his words. “And in a minute-“
He stopped walking and speaking when he felt something sharp against his throat. He looked down the shaft of the dragonbone spear at a very angry Samuel.
Protective guardian.
“Do not threaten Tranpar again or you will be having difficulty breathing as well as walking.” Samuel’s voice was cold and completely serious. He would kill to defend the kid that he had been left in charge of.
Valkan gulped, realizing that he had perhaps gone too far.
Samuel pulled the spear away, knowing that his point had been made. He put it on his back and once again led the way east.

Zel’s shout of “Lokolangs!” was enough to awaken Carl, who had been taking a nap on Vynx’s back. He jerked awake and drew his sword, noticing both sharpshooters readying their bows as well.
“Watch it, there’s someone in there!” Zel called before pelting one of four lokolangs with stone spikes.
The lokolang that was hit roared and turned to him, racing forward to attack. Carl urged Vynx forward and beheaded the thing as he raced past, leaping into battle with the other three lokolangs. One received two arrows to the throat but didn’t go down.
Carl ducked under some kind of blade whizzing over his head, locating the person being attacked by the lokolangs. She appeared to be around eighteen with blonde hair and bright blue eyes, widened in terror of the creatures before her. She had a vicious bitemark on her leg, explaining why she was on the ground, and some cuts and scrapes all over the rest of her.
“We’re here to help!” Carl shouted as Vynx clawed the face of one of the lokolangs. It was knocked off balance by Baltbee as it moved to strike, having been headbutted at high speeds. It opened its mouth to roar but its throat was slashed by the same blade that Carl had ducked under- one that seemed to be floating and moving with directions from the girl. Upon watching it, he realized that it had to be water, and wondered if there was such a thing as a water elementalist.
The lokolang that had previously been shot by the sharpshooters received a couple more arrows, bringing it down, and the final lokolang was stabbed in the stomach by spikes of earth from below.
Carl wiped off his sword and sheathed it before dismounting. He held out his hand to the girl, who let the water sink into the ground.
“My name is Carl.” He told her as she cautiously took his hand. He helped her up, supporting some of her weight on her injured side. “We’ll get you patched up, okay?”
“Thank you.” Her voice was quiet, shaking. She was clearly in a lot of pain and possibly in shock. “I’m Katrin.” Carl helped get her away from the dead monsters and sat her down, the others moving over to them.
“Is everyone okay?” Zel asked, looking over his teammates.
“We’re fine, it’s her that’s hurt.” Vorna made a vague motion at Katrin.
Zel sat beside her, looking her over. “It’s bad, but you’ll live.” He decided, swinging his bag off of his back and going through it. “I wonder if this warrants the use of a healing potion.”
“If she’s one of us, yes. If she’s not, then no.” Aldobiva answered, pulling the stone from its pocket in the bag and watching it light up. “Here. Hold this.”
Katrin barely listened, holding out her hand. She seemed to be trying not to look at her wounds, shuddering anytime she saw her own blood.
The stone ceased glowing for a brief moment as it was dropped, but lit up again the moment it touched her hand.
“Potion.” Aldobiva and Vorna said together. Zel nodded and pulled out one of their healing potions, letting Katrin drink it before putting it back in the bag.
“Thank you.” She whispered again. “W-why…”
“We couldn’t just let you die.” Carl reasoned. “Plus we’re…kind of looking for some people. People like us, who are part of a prophecy to save the world. We tend to run into each other all over the place and we couldn’t take the chance that you were and let you die. Turns out we were right about that.”
She nodded, clearly both shy and still in some level of shock despite the worst of her wounds being healed.
As Zel started cleaning the blood off of her, Carl continued to talk to her. “So, how do you do that thing…with the water?”
Zel glanced up in interest when she responded, “Water elementalist.”
“I’m an elementalist too! Earth for me.” He grinned at her and she smiled back.
She had a good feeling about these people.

“Well, that’s ironic.” Jsano decided. “I think she’s squeamish about blood.”
“She’s your descendant, though!” Millbee protested. “You, like, deal with blood all the time.”
“She’s not me, though. They’re not us.” Jsano shrugged. “Baltbee isn’t exactly like you, is he?”
“Well, no. I’m more interesting and have better one-liners.”
That made the room laugh, particularly Millbee himself. After a few more minutes, Paul looked over at Adlington.
“Your descendant really needs to chill out.”
“Yeah.” Adlington sighed. “I’m pretty disappointed in him.”
“Mine needs to learn to shush.” Seth grumbled. “He’s going to get himself killed.”
“If Samuel kills Valkan, I’ll only be a little sorry.” Paul said cheerfully.
“Join the club.” Adlington muttered.
“Tarsen needs to chill but Valkan needs to leap into the icy tundras of the Frostlands.” Bdoubleo muttered.
“The Frostlands don’t exist anymore.” Paul reminded him.
“Oh, right.” He mumbled something about ridiculous changing geography under his breath.
“That happened before I was born.” Blame shot back. “How do you forget that?”
“It wasn’t important until now!”
“Some of us come from the Frostlands, Bdubs!” Blame argued. “Seriously. Two whole countries crumble into the sea- Eastern and Western Frostlands- and you forget about it!”
“Woops.”
Vechs rolled his eyes. He didn’t know a whole lot about the Frostlands either- they had been nonexistent since long before his time- but even he could keep track of new countries and such going on in Minecraftia. He still wondered sometimes exactly how Valtarion had become part of Traz’madar, but it wasn’t a huge deal.
Vechs tapped Blame’s shoulder. “Who’s from the Frostlands?” He hissed.
“Doc’s from Western, or at least his accent is. He won’t give me a straight answer as to whether or not he actually is. Anderz and Pyro are from different parts of Eastern. I think that’s it.” Blame shrugged. “Why?”
“Just wondering. I’m not too familiar with where people are from. I mean, obviously you’re from Ashwatch.”
“If that wasn’t blindingly clear to everyone I’ve ever met I think they need to get their brains checked.” Blame informed him. “Or at least their knowledge of the world and Skullblades.”
“Not everyone knows about Skullblades, you know.”
“They should.”
Vechs laughed, which made Blame roll his eyes in an amused way.
Aureylian smiled slightly, watching them. It seemed that they were both feeling okay at the moment. With how paranoid Vechs had been and how damaged Blame was, it was uncommon to see them like this lately, especially Blame.
She had no idea of the hell that would soon be unleashed.
