Aside from the economic reasons as you said, I don't think there is any one definite reason, other than just wanting to be married. Perhaps it feels like more of a sense of permanence, perhaps wanting to declare your relationship to the world in some way. I realize you don't need the piece of paper to do that, but you may want to have it anyway. I mean, I don't need to hear my boyfriend say 'I love you' to know he does, and he doesn't need me to say it to know I do, but we say it anyway because it's nice to hear and to say.
