Theropod Plays Pokemon Version Mindcrack: 10
Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 09:34 pmThe final gym before we start the trek to take on the E4. Will we win, or will we wipe? Find out, now! Now featuring crappy doodles by yours truly!

First off, new catches. I treated myself to a shiny new(ish) 3DS between now and the last update, so I've been able to actually get onto this Dream World thing that's been mentioned. There's different areas there where you can catch pokemon that you won't usually find in Unova and only 3 of them are open at first, you kind of have to earn your way to the others and you can only keep one to take with you every day. So, the three catches from this new place are:
Dream Park: Wurmple, male. Lvl 10 bug type, Adamant nature (!! Gosh, suddenly really tempting to train him up), Mischivevous. Ability: Run Away
Sparkling Sea: Kabuto, male. Lvl 10 rock/water type, Relaxed nature, proud of its power, Ability: Weak Armour.
Icy Cave: Shree, Onix, male. Lvl 10 rock/ground type, Jolly nature, highly curious Ability: Weak Armour.
I also bought a little pokemon mini game that involves shooting clouds with the 3DS, it generates clouds in your room and you shoot em and it's kinda fun except when you have to twist round at awkward angles to get it right. So I caught one pokemon from that to keep and when I get others I release them (except the exclusive legendaries, those are just sitting to one side as collection pieces, not gonna use em but they're cool looking, mostly.)
Dream Radar: Munna, female, lvl 40 psychic, sassy nature, loves to eat. Ability: Telepathy
Now onto the normal catches. I found a lets play directory and started pulling usernames from that when I started running out of some names. I also went in search of catches in sheer desperation at one point x-x You'll see why.
Giant Chasm: Neia, Clefairy, female. Lvl 44 normal type. Brave nature, somewhat of a clown. Ability: Cute Charm
Route 22: Adlington, Solrock, genderless. Lvl 41 rock/psychic type, Jolly nature, likes to thrash about. Ability: Levitate
Strange House: Pyro 2, Banette, male, lvl 32, ghost type, gentle nature, highly curious. Ability: Frisk
Relic Castle: Jims, Yamask, male lvl 20 ghost type. Rash nature, somewhat stubborn, Ability: Mummy
Hidden Grotto (Route 5): Necroscope, Foongus, male, lvl 20 grass/poison type. Naughty nature, likes to fight. Ability: Regenerator.
Humilau City: No Regrets, Staryu, genderless, lvl 36 water type. Naive nature, somewhat of a clown. Ability: Illuminate.
So after doing a few catches and wandering around, I go to starting grinding up the team.
Starrlett fainted!
Wait what-
Etho fainted!
Oh hell no.
Starrlett fell to a Gligar (damn Gligars have killed two team mates now) with a rock type move and Etho fell to one of the fighting types used by the trainers I was using to grind up on, which really irks me because I wasn't expecting them to have a level spike nor for a 'not very effective' move to do that much damage.
I then set about the great hunt for replacements, resulting in the large catch list up there. I needed a flying type replacement, a water type replacement and a psychic type replacement. This is the problem when you become dependant on too many dual types x-x. Eventually I ended up hauling Pause out the box since he was the best choice, even if he doesn't have the best move set, and he was at lvl 35 so I had to train him up 20 levels. The second replacement member was No Regrets. I chose this guy because once he evolved he'd be a water/psychic powerhouse.
Congratulations! Your No Regrets evolved into Starmie!
That was after I decided not to evolve until he'd learned Hydro Pump. Awww yeah -cool shades-
Now pose like a team for the last battle, cause shit just got real:

Why yes, I did make a poor attempt at drawing the team. I squished it to fit nicely on the page, hope it doesn't look too bad, I can always link to my tumblr for the full size. [link]
Now, team stats, with the team all at lvl 55:
Guude: Magical Leaf, Swords Dance, Giga Drain, Sacred Sword. Item: Big Root
Guilty: Discharge, X-Scissor, Volt Switch, Sucker Punch. Item: Magnet
No Regrets: Surf, Hydro Pump, Psychic, Power Gem. Item: Hard Stone
Pause: Quick Attack, Return, Air Slash, Fly. Item: Sharp Beak
Blame: Will-O-Wisp, Flame Burst, Inferno, Hex. Item: Charcoal
Kurt: Crunch, Dig, Strength, Ice Fang. Item: Metronome
For this one, as it's a water type gym, we want Guude and Guilty up front, with Blame waaay out the way to avoid losing him. Guude's going to lead the attack with Guilty in reserve. Ice usually goes hand in hand with water and I'd rather switch out to heal than risk losing another team mate especially this close to the end.
First trainer has a Floatzel, lvl 47. One Magical Leaf from Guude and it's out. In comes a Mantine, lvl 47. Magical leaf barely inflicts any damage. Ah, dual type. Not good, need to switch out. In comes No Regrets for his secret rock type attack - but the thing uses Bounce and dives out the way. It barely causes any damage when it lands on No Regrets however. Power Gem takes it down to a sliver of red health and it uses Agility in the hopes of beating our speed. It does so and uses Aqua Ring for some health but when No Regrets gets off another Power Gem it is out for the count. Win!
Second trainer sends out Alomomola, lvl 48. Magical Leaf takes it down to red health and it uses Wish to recover health at a later turn. Thats too late for it though as another Magical Leaf takes it out. Win!
Third trainer sends out Walrein, lvl 48. Giga Drain takes it to yellow health and it responds with Swagger, upping Guude's attack but at the same time confusing him. Guude manages to concentrate long enough to get off another Giga Drain and we win!
Fourth trainer sends out Basculin which falls to Magical Leaf. As does the next, which gains Guude a level up. Out comes Azumarill and is immediately taken to red health by Giga Drain. It responds with rain dance to make it rain (indoors no less) and then Guude knocks it out with Magical Leaf. Win!
Fifth battle x_X. Golduck comes out and is felled by Giga Drain. The foe then sends out Starmie at which Guude sucks dry with another Giga drain. WIn!
Have to admit, this gym is very pretty and relaxing. Pause to restore PP and then we go in for the final Gm Leader, Marlon!
Out comes Carracosta, lvl 49. Giga Drain takes it all the way down to 1hp where its Sturdy ability kicks in. Man I hate that ability. It then use Shell Smash to boost attack and lower defense. Marlon uses his turn to heal up and Guude takes the chance to use Giga Drain again, thus once more activating Sturdy. Urgh. Magical leaf takes it out for good.
Waillord comes in, lvl 49. Giga Drain takes it down to red health and then it uses Bounce. Uh oh. In desperation I switch to Kurt because Bounce is a flying type and Guude is four times weak to it. Kurt easily shrugs off a frigging whale landing on him (wow) and responds with Crunch to take it out.
In comes Jellicent and this is going to be tough because of that dual typing. Guude is switched back in. Giga drain to half health, then its ability kicks in, disabling Giga Drain! It uses its held Sitrus berry to restore hp then uses the move I was hoping it wouldn't. Ominous Wind. Oh. It barely takes off two HP. Okay then. Magical leaf down to a third then it uses Recover to restore health to the green. Another Magical leaf and it uses Ominous wind again. Magical leaf and the Jellicent is down! Guude levels up! WE WIN!
Thero received the Wave Badge from Marlon!
And TM 55 Scald!
And then Marlon dives into the sea. Then plot calls for us. As we make our way through route 22, Colress appears, gives us a plot device, drops hints about route 21 and moves on. Theres another of the legendary trio here but I can't catch it because I have my catch for this route already. I'll leave him be for now.
And since the next bit involves lots of hunting around and such, I'll leave this update here. Thanks for reading folks, hope you're enjoying the crappy doodles XD
