Part 3 of my (still untitled) Mindcrack Fanfic
Friday, January 18th, 2013 06:15 pmOkay, I know these posts have been rather odd and spasmodic, but I just can't stop writing! So much inspiration! :) This is part 3.
Part 2
Part 1
So, as always, please feel free to offer any advice or criticism you deem appropriate. I'd like to thank you guys for welcoming me and giving me a place to write about such a specific (but awesome) topic. So, here we go! Part 3!
Beef’s POV
I stared at the desk without actually seeing what was in front of me. I couldn’t think. My mind was filled with questions, How did she get here? What does she want? and What does it mean to me? Mostly I just couldn’t get that damn dream out of my head. It was so strange… I was standing in the front courtyard, and there she stood a few feet in front of me, facing towards the trees. I walked up to her and put a hand on her shoulder. She looked up and smiled at me. Her face was so clear, but still unrecognizable, because I had only ever seen her in dreams. Her smile seemed to fill me with a contentment that I hadn’t felt in a long time. It made me feel like a little kid again. In the dream, we would walk back to the castle together… and then she would be gone. Just like that. Every time, she would just disappear and the castle would feel as cold and empty as the cobblestone it consisted of. And, every time, I would wake up, still very much alone and feeling dissatisfied, as if something was missing. I tried not to think about what it might possibly mean.
Eventually I stood up, unable to take the overwhelming silence any longer. I walked up several flights of stairs to one of the towers. I stood there by the ledge, trying to clear my head, and succeeded, for the most part. I thought about plans for the jungle village, for my next prank, and for the castle. I thought about my activities in the FTB world, and about the next ultra-hardcore.
Slowly, the sun began to rise. I watched it peek over the forest at the edge of the courtyard, filling the sky with colors of every shade. It was beautiful. It wasn’t the first time I had watched the sun rise from this vantage point, and it wouldn’t be the last.
Anna’s POV
That night I had another dream. Once again, I was standing in front of the little stream with trees all around it. The peaceful feeling was there, just as strong, if not stronger, than it had been before. Once again, the soft footsteps sounded behind me and a hand rested on my shoulder. Once again, I turned my head to face him… and screamed.
Beef’s POV
I jumped when I heard the scream. Rushing down the stairs, I pulled out my sword and skipped the last few steps into the main room… to find nothing there. “Damn it, don’t scare me like that!”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” she said, sitting up and catching her breath. “I just…” she hesitated, “bad dream.”
“Bad dream, huh?” I put my sword away and went to grab the chair from the other side of the room. “Wanna talk about it?”
“Um…” She seemed nervous, “maybe some other time.”
Anna’s POV
“Okay…” again he seemed suspicious, as if my having dreams meant something to him. “So, what exactly are you planning on doing now?”
“Well…” I thought for a moment. Come to think of it, I didn’t really have a plan. “I don’t really know. I have to get home, but I don’t know how. No one seems to want to help me though.”
“I can help you!” He said, but immediately looked embarrassed. I guessed he hadn’t meant to sound so eager. “I mean, you know, if you want my help…” our eyes locked for a moment and the air grew still and silent. I tried to think, but my mind had gone blank. Wait, what was I talking about?
He looked away quickly and cleared his throat. “Well, I can probably ask around and see if anyone has heard of something like this before. It would be simpler if Guude would just let you stay, but I don’t think he’ll go for it just yet. We should probably wait a while on that.”
“Alright, we have a plan then!” I smiled despite myself; I just couldn’t stay sad with Beef around.
“Okay. Well, I’m going outside to work on some stuff…” he got up and put the chair back where it belonged.
“Can I help?” I said, standing up before I even realized I was talking. I didn’t want to be alone and, somehow, I was enjoying just talking to him.
“No, I think you should stay inside, so no one sees you.”
I sat back down, disappointed. “Okay.” I watched him leave, wondering how I would entertain myself. There doesn’t seem to be anything to do but wait…
Beef’s POV
I walked out of the room, hoping she wouldn’t get into any more trouble while I was out. I wasn’t sure if I could even concentrate on my work with all the events of the past few days. I wasn’t quite sure what to think. I guess all there was to do was wait.
