I'm always surprised that people are surprised to find fanfics (Especially for a fandom so large- there are certainly fanfics for much smaller fandoms and if the internet has taught me anything it's that people will write fanfic for basically anything)

Fanfiction is such a niche and female driven enterprise (even in fandoms that are otherwise male targeted, like sports). Many people don't know it exists at all, or if they do assume it only exists for fandoms with huge female fanbases; of course this isn't true, but if you're not deeply involved in the community the assumption makes sense.

hhmm, that's a good point, I guess I tend to not think about it as the circles I usually hang out in have always been cool with stuff like shipping and fic. It just seems so odd to think that people don't know of such things haha

To be fair, the concept of fanfic can be quite foreign if you're not already used to it. Even I remember being quite disturbed by its existence in my early internet days. I would be like, "WHY WOULD PEOPLE WRITE THAT ABOUT SNAPE AND HERMIONE D:" and other people would be like, "Dude, that's not even the weirdest pairing out there by a longshot."

My history with fanfiction over the years basically goes like this: "I find this weird and wish to avoid it like the plague" > "Some of it's fun to laugh at, but still, why does this exist?" > "Some people are insisting that some of it's good, but I'm not sure I believe them" > "Some people I know are saying they sometimes write it, but I still don't understand" > "Fine, I guess I don't care if people write it, but it's still not for me" > "All right, I get it now. People should be free to do whatever makes them happy. But I still have no desire to write it" > "Yeah, I'm totally writing fanfic now. How did that happen again?"

I had to go through that whole process to get to where I am now, and I suspect most of the people commenting that it's weird or whatever are still in the first couple of stages and may not care to go further.

That's pretty much the process I go through every single time I enter a fandom.

And then there's me... I was writing fanfic as a kid before I knew there were people on the internet, or even that other people did it, or what it was called. I thought I was ~truly unique~ in a "I SHOULD MAIL THIS TO THE CREATORS AND THEY WILL TOTALLY WANT TO MAKE IT INTO A REAL EPISODE/MOVIE/BOOK!"

It took only a matter of minutes to realize that there were tons of people doing this when I finally got online and I ran to them with open arms. Sometimes some fanfic still stops me short, but I'm never surprised that it EXISTS anymore. I've seen too much, and the goggles... they do nothing.

I think it also has to do with finding a fandom where you can progress onwards. I never understood how delightful fanfiction could be until I came here, and I'm still disapproving of some larger fanfiction communities.

I mostly downvoted the post so it wouldn't go on the front page and have all likes of crackheads and mindcrackers crawling all over it and getting offended or something.

All I can say is that at least it wasn't the bound one for guude and pause... I can only laugh at my brain and the reactions that would get.. They would be out with fire and pitchforks...

We do have at least one Mindcracker who has given us his blessing; see the salad tag for details. If one of them messaged me (here or on the Reddit orYoutube accounts of the same name) and asked to refrain from using his name/image/persona, I would respect that.

If a hater comes in who is not a part of either the main server or the fanserver and harasses community members, though, that is something I will not tolerate.

Hello guys! Welcome to Mindcrack Love! :)

I think it's equally interesting that there are people writing Mindcrack fanfic without knowing we exist or thinking to post here (or at least leave a message on the rules post to have me post on their behalf). How should we reach out to people to ensure those that want to be part of this community find us?

Edit: Almost out of battery. Feel free to make throwaway accounts and answer questions there, otherwise I'll be back in about 3 hours. And do you think I should do an AMAA? If so, should I do it there or here?

I'm not sure how I feel about the post on the reddit, although I certainly enjoyed the fanfiction :)

People lack the understanding that while fanfiction abounds, it's generally considered poor-form to show it to the actors in general. (Or, in this case, the gamers.) It's one thing to know it exists. It's another thing to parade it in their faces so they have to comment on it.

And this is sort of especially weird because Baj/Pyro don't intereact (except for that one UHC), whereas Beef/Pause, Guude/Bdoubleo, Pause/Millbee, etc are all "played up" by the guys in general, so that's less weird to see.

It's moments like these that make me want to lock the whole comm down with member's only lock so you have to have an account and join the comm to read the posts... but then I know that sort of defeats the purpose of the comm, and of finding new members, and of letting people comment anonymously.

So I'll just twiddle my toes and hope that the haters wander off, the intrigued people join, and the Mindcrackers generally turn a blind eye. :D I'm surprised people are surprised this place exists, especially considering that there are huge fanfic type communities for other YouTube-style celebrities, but then again, I've been in fandoms all of my life, so I'm generally more surprised when I CAN'T find a comm for something.

And I hope people also enjoy and appreciate the fact that this comm is about a lot more than just shipping. We have had some really cool discussions here that just wouldn't go over well on Reddit.

While it's cool to see that this could bring in more people who could be a great asset or addition to the community here, the reddit post just show how many people are quite shallow-minded to the idea...
To be honest, it isn't the best fic to be introduced to the concept by but I - personally - find the comments on the post to be quite...saddening... :(

I guess I'm a bit paranoid about how this could affect the community here as I love how nice everyone is, how open people are to different ideas and such...

Okay, but seriously. Talk of potentially shutting down the comm to members only? No, I don't see this happening. I know we're a bit of a controversial place compared to the rest of the community, and I knew that I and the rest of the members here were taking a risk posting publicly everything we've written and talked about, so I figured something like this would happen eventually. Given enough people interested in this fandom, we cannot expect to go unnoticed forever, not from people who might give us grief for what we do, and not even from the people we write about. I for one am prepared to face that and will gladly assist Ms. Mod in answering questions people may have about us (kudos to her, BTW, for explaining things so calmly in the reddit comments)

And honestly, we may not even be hit that hard from all this. At first you had me worried that the reddit post linked to something written here, but this was not the case and we are only mentioned in the comments, not directly linked. No doubt some people will get curious and look us up, but so far there have been no trolls posting here.

Yeah, I wasn't serious about the locking the comm down thing anyway. Even if we did, that's just a thin barrier to breech to get access anyway, and then does destroy the anonymous aspect, too.

Unless one of the Mindcrackers themselves contacted us or posted about not wanting stuff written/drawn/etc about them, I don't foresee any issues. (And we know at least one is semi-uncomfortable about stuff and don't feature him in things/discussions, though I'm not sure how much we would even if he didn't mind as he's one of the smaller channels...).

Basically, this community is going to exist with "approval" or not. It's just one layer deep right now. It'll go "underground" if it gets hit with trolls or spam or assholes, and hopefully that just won't happen.

I too have written fanfic I'm not proud of, that at the time I thought was the coolest ting in the world. It's a natural part of the growing process when it comes to writing, I think, and I'd hate to discourage anyone from doing it.
